Our client is a major international Engineering Group designing and manufacturing heavy electro-mechanical equipments and turn-key solutions for the steel industry, on a worldwide scale.
It is looking for a Transport & Logistics Expert who will lead transport and logistics strategy as well as coordinate operations for all shipments worldwide. All inbound, inter-sites, and outbound shipments from/to suppliers, contractors and client sites are included in the scope. Equipments and goods are generally containerized and transported by road (continental) and maritime modes (intercontinental). Loads of abnormal sizes and weights are also frequent. One major challenge is caused by the shift of supplier’s and client’s gravity centers from Western Europe and US to BRIC countries.
The expert will have the following responsibilities:
Redesign and deploy a global transport and logistics strategy, considering gravity center’s shifts and transport industry transformation.
Support Purchasing department in negotiations with transport and logistics services suppliers on a global basis
Develop and implement relevant KPI’s, standards, referentials and benchmarks that will help local logistics responsibles to apply best practices and reach service levels and contained cost objectives
Lead Global Logistics & Transport improvement programmes and animate the “logistics community”
Coordinate and support local transport & logistics operations
Report on global transport and logistics performances
Elaborate contingency solutions to face diverse crisis scenarios ( social unrest, transport economics, infrastructure failures, accidents, regional conflicts,….)
Required profile:
Degree in Economics and/or education in Transport and Logistics (or equivalent experience)
10 years experience either with a global maritime and road transport operator, or within a logistics department dealing with intercontinental maritime and international road shipments over thousand containers/year.
Familiar with complex contractual terms and service level indicators in use for international road/maritime transport and logistics operations
Able to deploy new practices and ways of working without direct authority; good communication skills.
Perfectly fluent in English, good knowledge of French.
Approx. 50 % international travel required
